ABOUT the “VIC”

The Victoria Curling Club at 948 William Avenue in Winnipeg is a completely volunteer run curling facility that has been associated with the Manitoba Curling Associaiton for 90 years.

The Victoria Curling Club is a not for profit organization that has no debt and still in today’s economic climate and down turn in curling participation manages to report modest surpluses annually and keep the building and ice well maintained.

This small, working persons club, has five artificials sheets of ice maintained by a very experienced ice maker with 26+ years experience in ice making. The “Vic” as it is affectionately known has hosted many MCA events in the past 90 years including several Provincial Championships, and is home to 4 Past President’s of the association.

The Victoria boasts over 17 Ice Rental Leagues, 3 nights of Men’s, 1 Business Ladies, a Saturday Mixed League, and 2 Seniors curling leagues during the day. Our membership fees are amongst the lowest in the city. We have a small but cozy lounge area upstairs for you to relax in after your game and enjoy your favorite beverage at again some very reasonable prices. We also have a 52″ Wide Screen 1080P HDTV to watch your favourite sporting event on.

The club has many annual special events that in this our 90th year will include:

  • A Past Presidents Dinner (Men’s and Ladies)
  • Grey Cup Party
  • Skins Game
  • Open Houses throughout the year to introduce new teams and curlers to the game and the facility
  • New Years Day Open House
  • Calcutta Night
  • Men’s, Ladies, Mixed, Seniors Windups
  • Socials
  • Golf Day
  • An quite possibly a bonspiel to mark our 90th anniversary

The club is fortunate to keep costs down with the help of the membership and the buying and selling of Grey Cup Pool Tickets annually. This provides approx. $5K in revenue that goes towards the maintenance of the ice and bulding. We also have many 50/50 raffles throughout the year and this year as in last season will raffle off our HDTV selling tickets at the bar 3 for $5. The club also acknowledges donations from the Victoria Business Ladies and the value in kind contributions provided by our members and supporters such as Dan Dixon, and Rob Atkins from Atkins Curling Supplies among many others. Your support of the Vic is truly and greatly appreciated.

We were also fortunate enough to receive financial assistance from the Manitoba Curling Association Development Fund this season to the tune of $5000.00. This contribution will go along ways to assisting in the cost of our ice plant maintenance and overhaul which is estimated to cost in the neighbourhood of $12,000.00.

This club has been around for many years and a friendlier club around ther city you will not find. You will enjoy curling at the Victoria and you will have fun being a member in one of our many leagues. The Board of Directors is made up almost entirely of Past Presidents and members truly passionate about the sport and this member owned curling facility.

Our OPEN HOUSE’S this year are designed for the novice curler and anyone who wants to ge into the game of curling, learn the game, try it out on the ice, and get to meet and greet the members of our club. The dates are as follows:

  • October 24th
  • November 21st
  • December 19th
  • February 13th
  • March 13th

There is no cost to you and you are welcome to bring as many friends, family, co-workers, etc as you want, learn the game, try it out, and have a good time at our club. Don’t spend another winter indoors complaining about how cold it is and dreaming of a summer that may never come. (look what happened this yeat!!) Give anyone of us a call and GET CURLING!!!
