Victoria Curling Club

For the second year in a row, January 2010 is officially Curling Month in Manitoba, as recently declared by Eric Robinson, Minister responsible for Sport. And that means it’s a busy month for curling in the Province, and at the Vic.

Three teams from the Vic are trying to find out if it really is worth the trip to Steinbach – for the 2010 Safeway Men’s Curling Championship in February. They will be competing in the city of Winnipeg zone playdowns scheduled for January 12-17.

Good luck to the Jim Conacher team, made up of Jim, Grant Buckowski, Lionel Bernhard, Rob Skabar and fifth man Blaine McLaren. These guys gave Vic Peter’s super senior squad all he could handle in the senior men’s zones, and could go on a good run.  Dan Dixon, supported by Rob Atkins, Graham Grimes, and Rob Gartner, along with the Collin Sundell team, with Bryce J. McEwen, David Kammerlock, Curtis Connon and fifth man David Chalmers round out the other two teams trying to earn a spot at the Select or the Tankard (if you’ve ever played with a corn broom, you know what I’m talking about).

While some are off chasing their provincial championship dreams, the Vic will be hosting 8 draws of the MCA Ladies bonspiel, on January 15 & 16.

Don’t forget to get your entry for the MCA Men’s Bonspiel in by the January 14th deadline. Curl Manitoba WILL NOT be extending the deadline this year. Curling starts on the 28th, but the real MCA starts on the 27th, upstairs at the Vic for the Calcutta.
